COVID-19 Tests Update
Free COVID tests will be available to order from the US government again. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, US households can order four free tests from Covidtests.gov. This relaunch of the free rapid tests by mail program comes as the newest vaccine boosters are being distributed. Testing is an important component of minimizing the spread of infection.

The Beaver Island Rural Health Center has on-site testing available and anticipates having COVID vaccines available by the end of September. The oral antiviral medications Paxlovid and Molnupiravir are also still available for those persons meeting the guidelines, one of which is to be within 5 days of symptom onset.

Beaver Island Rural Health Center COVID-19 Web Info Update
As a result of rapid home-testing and the subsequent ending of the Public Health Emergency status, the BIRHC will no longer be collecting or reporting data on COVID-19 infections. This doesn’t, however, mean that COVID-19 is over. Far from it. According to the CDC, roughly 9,000 people are hospitalized each week and about 1,000 die from COVID-19. Emergency Departments and Hospitalizations will continue to be the indicators of the COVID-19 presence and severity within communities.
